Been considering putting a stainless exhaust on the Zx there's a specialist here in Sheffield ( exhausts uk ) and for around £300 they will make one to fit the Zx , just wondering how the car will respond from it and is it worth de-catting also , would the car run ok with the cat of and how mch would it affect the emissions etc for the Mot test ? Mark :?:

I do not know what the emission requirements are for the UK, but it probably wouldn't pass MOT. In Holland you can have maximum of 0,3% CO and without it's not possible to achieve that. My ZX is decated and has around 0,6% CO emissions. Your best bet is to buy a sport cat, doesn't restrict the flow as much as the original one, sport cat can be bought around €190,-.
Throttle reaction will be a bit more responsive, but don't expect big power improvements.

Thanks for the quick reply ,I had a stainless system fitted by the same company to my old fiat doblo 1.9jtd van and which was nippy to start with and after I had the system fitted it would REALLY pull like a train and it would pull very quickly through the gears , also the in gear accelleration was fantastic , the citroën dispatch 2.0hdi 110 bhp feels quick but doesn't have the response of the fiat which was 105bhp + whatever the gain was from the exhaust & decat , I did test drive a dispatch before the doblo which was quick but was a bit nasty , might get my dispatch chipped and see what that does , Mark. biggrin

Yup anything with a turbo on it will have more powerimprovement with an open exhaust then a NA engine.
Modifying the exhaust is mostly for a nicer sound.
The 16V I had with a chipped ECU and custom exhaust did about 160 measured HP.
