big problem i have at the moment is that the air filters fit the underside of the bonnet ,

so i have to make a bonnet vent to fit

any thoughts on design , it needs to be 69CM long as i want it to be equil on each side

i have attached a photo of what i have neen thinking

this is a fake vent but i like the design so i may make one from 1.2mm sheet

i do have a proper inlet manifold.

it is from QEP and made by Longman's

its the correct one

I know, its the same that jenvey and omex sell its a shoddy attempt at an "off the shelf fits all" thing, a proper manifold will mean no crap looking bonnet vents.

get one with more of a curve and slightly longer and you will make more power.

im not going to just throw the one i have away ,

also with a vent i can set up a ram air system ,

i also fail to see how a longer manifold will give me more power,

a long track manifold will give you more torque but a slower reving engine

a short track gives a faster reving engine ,

longer tract wont make it rev less.

its all about pulse tuning, have spoken to Sandy brown quite a bit about it and he builds all his race eng9ines with long tracts.

ok so i have paid £200 for the mainfold so i throw this in the big and buy a new one for what ?

so its going to cost around what £500

what will i gain 3-4BHP >

i will stick with what i have and use a ram air system and by doing this i can set up a head shield so the hot air from the rad does not get sucked into the engine so i will have some gains from using cold air ,

i just dont see the point , yes its would be nice to not have to put a vent in but it would mean that the air filters would also sit on the rad , and with engine movment e,c,t

a lot more than 3-4bhp, its about the are under the peak.

RAMAIR is only effective at higher speeds. In general: Longer inlet runners usually help with low rpm torque while sacrificing peak hp at high rpm.
However as welshpug says it's all about "the pulsation of the inlet air" the right (it will always be a compromise) length of runners depends on the block itself (valve timing, compression, exhaust manifold etc) and the rpm range you will be at most of the times.
I think that switching to longer runners wil give you a better usuable powerband and it will be well worth the money tot get another inlet manifold.
